2012-2013 Orchestra Rosters!

COURSE DESCRIPTORS:
Please read the following course descriptors once you find out which orchestra you are in. Each orchestra will be challenged and students will have opportunity to improve their skill in all groups. There are also leadership opportunities available no matter which group you are in. The most important thing to remember is how you develop personally as a player and as a person.
Philharmonia Orchestra – This orchestra is designed for students who are developing the following skills: High position work, consistent intonation, Left and Right hand postition consistency, rhythmic, and notational reading skills. This course will allow students to have a level of performance comfort while rapidly improving the above named skills. This orchestra will perform at all concerts and at LGPE. Opportunity will be provided for violin players who are interested to switch to viola, cello, or string bass. Performance literature will include traditional string orchestra literature as well as exploring rock, pop, fiddle and eclectic styles of music.
Chamber Orchestra 2 – This orchestra is designed for students who can already play in at least 3rd position and have good intonation, good rhythmic, and notational reading skills. There will be reinforcement and increased development of advanced playing skills. This orchestra will perform at all concerts and at LGPE. Performance literature will include level 4 traditional string orchestra literature, as well as exploration of rock, pop, fiddle and eclectic styles of music.
Chamber Orchestra 1 – This orchestra is for students who are comfortable in advanced position work beyond 3rd position and have well developed intonation, rhythmic, and notational reading skills. There will daily reinforcement of advanced playing skills. This orchestra will perform at all concerts and LGPE. Performance literature will include level V and VI traditional string orchestra literature as well as exploration of rock, pop, fiddle and eclectic styles of music with advanced technical skills.
Symphony Orchestra: Symphony is the highest skill level orchestra at AHS and is a Full Orchestra that requires extra time outside of regular daily classroom time. This may include extended 4th period into part of the lunch period, as well as some all day rehearsals during teacher workdays and a few after school rehearsals. Students will be expected to perform advanced level literature (Level VI), improve, and maintain their performance skills on a regular basis. Students enrolled in Symphony will be expected to practice, attend all rehearsals, and perform in Chicago for the Midwest Clinic during the week of December 19 – 22. More details regarding requirements for the trip will be posted on the web site by June 15th. Midwest travel and performance takes place during semester exams. Administration has made arrangements for students to either take exams early, or on make up days in January 2013. Students who are enrolled in Symphony and cannot commit to performing at Midwest should contact Mr. Fisher by June 18th (after reading the requirements for participating in the Midwest Performance.)
