Biography
Formerly known as the AHS Chamber Orchestra, the Alpharetta High School Symphony Orchestra is the most illustrious string group within the school. The orchestra has played in Orlando, Chicago, and New York City's Carnegie Hall and consistently earns superior ratings while playing at the highest level of difficulty at the Fulton County Large Group Performance Evaluations. This year, the Symphonic Orchestra will perform as an honor group during the 2009 ASTA Convention, one of only four groups chosen to do so out of a pool of thirty applicants.
The high standards set forth by the AHS Symphony Orchestra are reflected in the commitment of its musicians. Rehearsals are held five days a week during school and also on Tuesday afternoons after school. The minimum practice time required each week is 100 minutes, but students often go above and beyond the requirement. Acceptance into this orchestra is highly selective - auditions are held in the spring, and students are required to play a number of two- and three-octave scales as well as an etude.
